Lead Manufacturing and Operations Engineer [HSE MOE001]

A Manufacturing and Operations Engineer is required to lead the manufacturing and supply chain aspects of the RF Antenna and Electrical product development. Providing the engineering team with a focused lead for manufacturing, assembly, procurement and supply-chain, during the developmental project phases. Assisting design engineering with design for manufacture, external supply-chain liaison, development assembly management and supplier development. The small and dynamic nature of the engineering team allows for this role to be multi-disciplined and range from production planning and strategic supplier engagement through to detailed hardware design and development.

Technical Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Hardware Engineering team to optimise their designs for PCB fabrication, assembly and test. Participate in design reviews to understand component selection and flag any potential sourcing issues
  • Lead the engineering procurement and supply chain activities, liaising with electrical and mechanical suppliers to deliver development builds to the engineering verification team; on-time to schedule
  • Build relationships with strategic suppliers to negotiate competitive pricing, ensure long lead time components are identified, sourcing risks mitigated and components procured in advance of manufacture
  • Lead the in-house manufacturing and assembly activities to deliver development builds to the engineering verification team; on-time to schedule
  • Manage development product manufacture and commissioning, through Product Lifecycle Management and Configuration Management tools
  • Provide technical leadership and mentoring in areas of specialist expertise
  • Support the wider technical deliverables required for product development, lifecycle management, operations process development, peer reviews and procurement support

Organisational Responsibilities:

  • Work with and lead engineering teams across multiple disciplines to produce engineering development assemblies for integration and testing
  • Take responsibility for multi-disciplinary engineering projects and delivery to tight timescales, communicating through plans, presentations and written reports
  • Management of small engineering teams and subcontractors for manufacturing, procurement and supply-chain development
  • Ability to work independently and take responsibility to deliver what is needed
  • Excellent communication skills and team working. Flexible can-do attitude

Qualifications & Skills:


  • A good first or Upper 2nd Class degree (BEng/MEng) in Engineering or equivalent work-based qualifications
  • 5+ years in manufacturing and development of RF and/or antenna products
  • Experience of manufacturing and procurement for communications equipment, preferably for commercial mobile platforms (airborne, marine or road vehicles)


  • Design of electronics PCBs for complex RF systems
  • Production leadership and quality assurance of complex electrical and electronics assemblies
  • Aware of the latest industry trends, able to influence component selection at the design stage
  • Experience of electronics component supply-chain liaison, management and risk mitigation
  • Understanding of the PCB fabrication and assembly process in a volume manufacturing environment
